If your bag was stolen at Orchard Road ...

THE duo nabbed targeted handbags, laptops and
other items left unattended by unwary shoppers
at malls and eateries in the Orchard Road area
and VivoCity.

On Wednesday, police nabbed the Filipino couple.
A 28-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man for a
series of thefts. The total haul recovered by
the police: Jewellery, laptops, handphones,
perfumes and handbags valued at about $20,000.

Officers on the case, from the Orchard Neighbourhood
Police Centre, had analysed crime patterns and
conducted stakeouts where they thought the culprits
would strike. Their efforts paid off when they
saw a couple behaving suspiciously at a hotel
along Orchard Road.

The duo was caught red-handed as they pinched
a handbag left unattended on a chair at a coffee
outlet. They will be charged in court today with
theft, which carries a jail term of up to three
years and a fine.

Commander of Tanglin Police Division Paul Lim
reminded shoppers not to leave their valuables
unattended as this would make them easy targets
for thieves.
